Fan Fest Portland: Day 1

I’ll have to admit, writing this post is both daunting and incredibly exciting, because I get to relive the most epic weekend ever (I’m still not over it).

In case you missed my last several posts, I flew to Portland, OR, last weekend to attend the Walker Stalker Con / Heroes & Villains combined event Fan Fest Portland for my birthday (which was the Saturday). I’m a huge fan of conventions – a place where you can unite with likeminded individuals all there to celebrate the same fandoms.

Rather than typing up a typical recap, this entire post (and the one following it for Day 2) is going to be an online diary entry of the day combined with NEW tips and tricks I learned, as well as a review not only of FFPortland as a whole, but also the Platinum Pass product that they offer. I know many people – myself included – were curious about the pass itself (and whether it’s worth what you pay) so I hope this gives everyone some food for thought. Some of my tips will be repeated from the convention guide posts I made, but seeing situations in real time just proved my points further so I have to reiterate them.

My general convention tips will be reiterated in blue, while any comments or feedback I have about the Platinum experience will be noted in red.

Are you ready to join me while I relive the epicness? Sweet. Here we go.

Gratitude

Well. Wow. Uh, where do I even start? I meant to wake up early today to not only explore more of the city on my last day here, but also start writing my full recap of this weekend. Instead, I was running on the most epic of highs last night and didn’t sleep until 3AM… then the post-con wave of exhaustion hit me hard and I conked out til nearly noon today.

Oops.

I’m now sitting in the Seattle airport – yes, Seattle, because I have a two hour layover here – to try and string together words, but I’ve been overwhelmed with gratitude and a heck of a lot of joy, so forgive this brief post which isn’t what I had originally intended to feature today. To say that this weekend exceeded my expectations is the understatement of the year, and we’re only two weeks into it.

To prove my point:

Yeah. This happened. And this isn’t even everything.

Did everything I’d intended go to plan? No, not quite.

Was it better than I’d intended? Absolutely.

This Wednesday, I’ll be back to regular posting with recaps and new tips and tricks I learned from my convention experience. If you’d like a few more photos and videos or me YELLING IN EXCITEMENT, please visit my instagram or my twitter, as I was posting often over the weekend.

Thank you especially, Tom Payne. Thank you especially, Jennifer Akerman.

Thank you to the rest of the TWD cast. Thank you to the entire Walker Stalker / FanFest crew, and Celeb Photo Ops team. This weekend was absolutely unforgettable.

29 is off to an amazing start.

In the meantime, I’m going to revel in this a bit more, so thanks for bearing with me in the meantime.

Talk soon everyone. 🙂

Friday Five: Favourite Music of 2017

Hello hello. As we speak (type), I’m running on one hour and fifteen minutes of sleep and eating airport hash browns and scrambled eggs. In a few hours I’ll be boarding my Alaska Airlines flight to Portland, Oregon, for my birthday this weekend. As most of you know, I’ll be attending the Walker Stalker Con / Heroes & Villains Fan Fest Convention (Fan Fest Portland) on Saturday and Sunday and I’m stoked beyond belief.

In case you missed it, I posted a mega guide to convention-ing split in two parts so visit those posts here:

  • Part One: What Con To Attend, Ticket Purchasing, Buying Photo Ops & Pre-Sold Autographs, and Planning Ahead
  • Part Two: Special Requirements, What to Bring/Wear, Autographs & Selfies, Photo Op Etiquette, The Merch/Artists Area, and More!

Today’s post was fitting given that I have earbuds in right now! Music is in my blood. I’ve been singing and playing instruments from a young age and I love listening to music regardless of what mood/situation I’m in. Whether I want to jump around in my room or unwind and relax, you can usually find me humming along, bobbing my head, or singing at full volume.

These five artists were with me all throughout 2017 – I even got to see 3 out of 5 in concert last year! So here I am, wanting to tell you about them all. Let’s go!
